At the 2017 OSDA State Finals, University School debaters Will Frankel and Akshat Chowksey, coached by Peter Paik and Humzah Quereshy, won first place in Public Forum debate, and US debaters Andrew Gilmore and Omer Ashruf, coached by James Lewis, won first place in Lincoln-Douglas debate. This is the first year in tournament history that the same school won state championships in both PF and LD. Additionally, since the two LD finalists were from the same school, they were both awarded first place and declared co-champions. Both Will Frankel and Andrew Gilmore attended debate camp with Mr. Paik and Mr. Lewis during the summer of 2014. And both Andrew and Will were members of the Classic Debate Camp staff in the summer of 2017.
